My lovely Bully Boys and I would like to welcome you to Bully & Co Dog Training. I'm a bully breed mum myself (Rambo is a Staffy | AMstaff Cross and Jason is an XL Bully) and work with a lot of bully breed dogs (XL Bullies, Staffies etc). Here are some infos to get you started. Bully Breeds aren't just welcomed here; they're celebrated with open arms. Unlike some trainers, I hold a deep admiration for these incredible dogs.
As a devoted bully breed dog mum myself, I understand the unique challenges we face. I've personally experienced the stigma surrounding these breeds and the added scrutiny they often endure.
My expertise extends to various bully-type dogs, and I've delved into the intricacies of their behaviour without resorting to harsh methods. Many of my clients come to me with similar challenges, seeking a gentle approach that has proven successful for others.
Let's work together to help your bully breed companion thrive and break free from stereotypes. Your furry family member deserves the same love and respect as any other breed, and I'm here to ensure they receive it.
My dog is really calm at home but outside my dog goes from zero to a hundred without anything in-between.
Your dog was great as a puppy but now everything else is more interesting to your adolescent bully than you when out and about?
Jumping up on visitors or finding it hard to stop playing with other dogs? This one is especially common for Staffy owners.
My dog is so strong that when he pulls I can barely hold him and walks aren't really fun. I don't want to be dragged along anymore.
Having a bully breed I feel that my dog needs to be more obedient than any other dog and I find it hard to deal with the negative comments I get.
Trainers didn't get the breed and how to train them. Also they recommended gear, toys etc that weren't bully appropriate.

Bully breeds are known for their strong personalities and 'stubbornness', which can sometimes make them appear challenging to train. However, with consistent and positive training methods, bully breeds can be trained just like any other dog breed.I actually find them way easier to train than other breeds as they are so people oriented and lovely. The key is to use reward-based and / or games-based dog training techniques that focus on positive reinforcement, consistency, and patience and also help build the skills for your bully up in a safe environment - so you get real life results. And of course to work on the relationship between you and your beautiful bully.
NO! Punishment-based training methods, such as aversive techniques or harsh corrections, are not recommended for any dog breed, including bully breeds. These methods can cause fear, anxiety, and aggression in dogs, which can result in behaviour problems and damage the bond between you and your dog. Instead, focus on positive reinforcement techniques, such as using treats, praise, and play, to reward desired behaviours and encourage good manners. Also, bullies are pretty sensitive souls - so a definite NO!
Preventing behavioural issues in bully breed dogs, or any breed, starts with providing them with proper socialisation, training, exercise, and mental stimulation. It's important to establish clear boundaries, rules, and routines for your dog and consistently reinforce positive behaviours. Early intervention and positive reinforcement training can help prevent unwanted behaviours, such as aggression, separation anxiety, or destructive chewing, from developing.
Bully breed dogs, like any other breed, require regular exercise and mental stimulation to thrive. Providing daily walks, playtime, and interactive toys can help keep your bully breed dog physically and mentally stimulated. Engaging in training sessions, nose work, puzzle toys, and other enrichment activities can also provide mental challenges and help prevent boredom, which can lead to destructive behaviours.
While not all bully breed dogs are dog-aggressive, some may have a higher prey drive or a tendency to be reactive towards other dogs. Proper socialisation and positive reinforcement training from an early age can help prevent and manage dog-aggressive tendencies in bully breeds. It's also important to keep your dog on a leash and under control in public places, avoid off-leash dog parks, and seek professional help from a qualified dog trainer or behaviorist if you notice any signs of dog aggression.
