My Senior Dog Rambo and I would like to welcome you to our Senior Dog Section! Rambo will turn 11 this year and I adopted him when he was already 6 years old.
Fact is, Senior Dogs Rock!
Here are some tips for you on adjustments you can make for your beloved senior dog.

Please see your vet for regular health checks. I highly recommend joint support supplies though.
This includes weight management, prevention of injuries, appropriate exercising.
Concept Dog Training can have a big impact to help your senior cope better by eg building up optimism and tolerance of frustration.
This could be things like comfy beds, raised feeder, enriching their lives and keeping their brain engaged.

Dogs are classified as Senior Dogs at the age of 7 or sometimes 8. For bigger dogs this can be a bit earlier and for smaller dogs this can be a bit later. Just like us humans dogs can age differently - some might be top fit until old age and others will show common signs of ageing earlier.
Just like us humans, dogs change too when they get older. Their mobility decreases and they often have pain in their joints etc. So pain management and adjustment to our dog's life's are necessary and the right thing to do. Our dogs also often have 'cognitive decline' when they get older - their brain functions differently, they might be a bit more pessimistic or loose their joy for life, their hearing and eye-sight can decrease, disorientation etc.
A lot of shelters have Senior Dogs and they are unfortunately often overlooked. There are also rescue organisations that specialise in senior dogs. One of my favourites is Senior Staffy Club.
Absolutely! Games-based concept Dog Training is amazing for senior dogs and as we work on underlying concepts like tolerance of frustration (to help your senior cope with the new situation), optimism etc.
Here are some of our favourite ways to spend time together.
